Hemingway’s: The Boozed Up Treasure Trove

On Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Behold Hemingway's:  a 2,800-square-foot bar-meets-treasure-trove housing the estate sale furnishings and heaps of more than 10,000 hardbacks from esteemed Nobel Prize Winner American author Ernest Hemingway (and all the brilliantly concocted cocktails you've ever dreamed of).

Doors opened last night and we were predictably impressed thanks to nightlife impresario Johnny Zander (the genius that keeps Teddy’s and Tropicana Bar hip). The ambiance is perfectly appropriate for the sophisticated theme: ornately decorated (is an understatement) with candelabras everywhere, velveted couches, enormous columns filled with antique books, a clever wall of ancient typewriters each with a paper bestowing a Hemingway's quote, and a glowing patio bar.  And despite all that refined grandeur, the space's sex appeal is through the ...

Vibes, Vibes, Vibes

I hate L.A. bars."

The star of the show: a gorgeous beveled glass bar covered with lustrous religious candles, topped with massive chandeliers that generate the glow of a halo (the only nod to the bar’s religious name). Towards the ...

This quaint and unpretentious wine bar, serves up small Italian inspired plates in a minimalist atmosphere. Black and white photos, distressed metal tables, and hanging Edison bulbs add to the chic vibe that provides a nice subtle contrast to the comfort food that covers their menu.

With New World and Old World wines, the Enoteca’s selections have all been carefully chosen by New York Sommelier Sarah Sutel, and include such far ranging wines from Australia, to Spain, and to more local Californian grown wines. ...
