Heavenly Melody: Deerhunter’s Celestial Ambient Sound (Release Party TONIGHT)

On Monday, September 27th, 2010
deerhunter

Atlanta’s preeminent progressive noise rock quartet, Deerhunter, is back with their third album. The band’s surreal masterpiece, ‘Halycon Digest,’ is a can’t–miss record, which lulls listeners into a dream-like world of ambient melody. From its otherworldly and down-tempo opening track, ‘Earthquake,’ through ‘He Would Have Laughed,’ the album’s moving last song, ‘Halycon Digest’ is a record, which favors celestial and airy guitar rhythm over aggressive sound.

With an unorthodox Frontman, the incomparable Brian Cox, Deerhunter incorporates a distinctly experimental sound, adding another innovative dimension to the genre conventionally known as Southern indie rock. Cox’s mysterious lyricism and ambiguous crooning are the catalysts, which drive the energy of the band and manage to ...

Hemingway’s: The Boozed Up Treasure Trove

On Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Behold Hemingway's:  a 2,800-square-foot bar-meets-treasure-trove housing the estate sale furnishings and heaps of more than 10,000 hardbacks from esteemed Nobel Prize Winner American author Ernest Hemingway (and all the brilliantly concocted cocktails you've ever dreamed of).

Doors opened last night and we were predictably impressed thanks to nightlife impresario Johnny Zander (the genius that keeps Teddy’s and Tropicana Bar hip). The ambiance is perfectly appropriate for the sophisticated theme: ornately decorated (is an understatement) with candelabras everywhere, velveted couches, enormous columns filled with antique books, a clever wall of ancient typewriters each with a paper bestowing a Hemingway's quote, and a glowing patio bar.  And despite all that refined grandeur, the space's sex appeal is through the ...

On Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

The Boom Boom Room (otherwise known as the 18th Floor of The Standard Hotel) was packed last night with fashionistas, drag queens, fashion big-shots and the like celebrating V Magazine’s New York issue.

Kelly Osbourne canoodled with British model Isaac Carew at the Belvedere Vodka-sponsored bash after leaving Betsey Johnson’s show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Leighton Meester showed up in a beautiful ivory and blush mini-dress of layered lace by Marc Jacobs and all smiles (who saw the season premiere of Gossip Girl last night?!).

Drag diva extraordinaire Lady Bunny was in the corner of the party, spinning dance beats all night long. Other guests in attendance included Rachel Zoe (who was 'dying' ...

GET READY!!!

On Thursday, August 5th, 2010
Vaudeville0485 The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is upping the ante with yet another enhancement to their fabulous hotel, and we have never been more excited to tell you about something!

In addition to the hotel's launch of their new bar we told you about awhile back, the Spare Room (1920's game room motif complete with a bowling alley), owners Comedian Jeff Beacher and actor David Arquette have teamed up to give The Roosevelt 'Beacher's Madhouse', a Vaudeville-frenzied blowout taking over a renovated space on the hotel's lower level.

In a members only style (think La Descarga or Soho House), guests will enter through a hidden passageway (a bookcase, they tell us) into a 2,500-square foot space complete with a tiered ...

Vibes, Vibes, Vibes

Behold The Saint, a cool, intimate lounge with a solid, polished crowd on the unlikely Fountain and Vine. You may remember it as Vine Bar (or you may not), a seedy, grimy rocker hole where musicians used to cavort. But former Vine Bar owners Johnny Maloney and Logan Fenton yearned for their hipster hangout to be so much more, and thus transformed the space into The Saint, which, according to Fenton, "feels like a New York bar. I hate L.A. bars."

The star of the show: a gorgeous beveled glass bar covered with lustrous religious candles, topped with massive chandeliers that generate the glow of a halo (the only nod to the bar’s religious name). Towards the ...

First & Hope Brings the Swank.

On Tuesday, June 8th, 2010
first_and_hope

First & Hope is the kind of ultra swank hotspot that’s begging you to come and play on a night out. A glitzy “supper club” where the hostess wears a pearl colored gown, live jazz filters through the joint, and a purplish flush from the chrome and LED lights illuminates the tables. This new downtown restaurant, across from the Walt Disney Concert Hall, couples flashy ambiance with proto-Southern tavern food, and it’s working.

Inside you’ll find an L-shaped dining room filled with stylish booths and banquettes, large chandeliers, and a well dressed staff. The fully stocked bar is complemented by pearlescent walls and a curved ceiling. And to add to the glam, Mad Men assistant costume ...
