Do you remember those girls across the street that your mother said you couldn’t play with? Something about them being too wild? Well, they’ve started a blog. It’s called Bleach Black.

Bleach Black is edgy meets urban meets parties in abandoned buildings, first dates in airplane graveyards and fashion trends that could make your heart stop (in a good way). Created and run by Kristin Reiter and Valerie Killeen (pictured), their blog showcases anything from “iconic style muses” to “rarefied hot shit that the girls adore.”

Labeled more as a conversational diary than a blog, Bleach Black is more than just your cookie cutter fashion website, rather, it’s more like a conceptual tornado which churns ideas, images, meditations on the afterlife, and must-have accessories.

Reiter and Killeen have the souls of unaffordable celebrity stylists and the brains of stellar shrinks with year-long waiting lists. Peppered in between images that will soon be iconic of a decade and a generation, are brief viddies of stuffed animals keyboarding (yep), cartoon ponies rapping and some of the best studded boots and jewelry you’ve seen in your life.

The images conspire and collaborate, inciting you to find some blue suede and/or make your own headband, crash a party, host a brunch on a sailboat, buy a panama hat and some red pajamas. It truly is fashion, and life, at its finest, wild and all-embracing and staunch support of self-expression. Bookmark Black Black & follow Kristin & Valerie on Twitter!

Cooler than cool, former Dior Homme designer Hedi Slimane is showcasing his exceptional artistic endeavors at The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) this Saturday, November 12, 2011, through January 22, 2012. The expansive exhibit, accurately entitled California Song, explores Slimane’s take on the urban youth culture and artistic communities throughout California with eye-catching installations of photographic essays, exhibitions, and publications.

The innovative exhibit spans two floors; with Slimane’s signature dark black and white portraits and gritty rock musician and concert culture dominating the collection, and a massive motion-photography installation featuring California bands such as No Age acting as the grand finale. To date, Slimane shoots for the most prolific fashion magazines including Vogue and V Magazine, and his subjects have included Lady Gaga, Lindsay Lohan and Robert Pattinson. The language of Slimane’s work is so new and so fresh; you do not want to miss this one.

November 12 to January 22, MOCA Pacific Design Center, 8687 Melrose Avenue. Admission: Free

We here at Minx Society have an undying love for anything Lomography touches.

From their Fisheye, Diana (in all her sassy forms), Sprocket, and the legendary Holga – we’ve got them all. Call us crazy collectors, but there was always one missing from our vastly growing whimsical group – a moving
camera – and leave it to the creative minds at Lomography to read ours.

The newest member of the Lomo family is the LomoKino, a 35mm movie maker camera that turns any 35mm analogue film into your very own 144 framed home movie. This one has that hands on vintage feel with hand crank and all, so you’ll instantly feel teleported to the Seventies.

Whether you are a die hard fan like us, or just looking for a break from your sleek digital documentations, the LomoKino is bound to capture all the great times you’ll never wanna forget. & PS, did we mention it’s only $79? Talk about retro pricing.

Here’s some video inspiration:

If the Coveteur wasn’t a website but an alcoholic beverage, it would be vintage brandy in a crystal snifter with just a touch of gold edging on the rim. Elegant and yet, both an understatement and an overstatement, saying so much and saying nothing at all, a sonnet of details.

Or allow me to put it in a different way. Have you ever knocked on Nicky Hilton’s door, pushed past her and gone straight to her bedroom, throwing open her closet door and spending some real time in there, examining her clothes, shoes and accessories with extreme care and detail? I think we both know the answer to that one.

The Coveteur is the virtual- prodigy-child of designer Erin Kleinberg and stylist Stephanie Mark as they sought to do something truly different with a blog that focuses on fashion. The Coveteur focuses upon a higher level of intimacy and details, summed up perfectly on their website with the statement, “The Coveteur takes you inside the closets of internationally influential cultural forecasters, showing us what culminates in their personal style – one item at a time.”

For example, you can peruse the collection of art dealer and design consultant Price Latimer Agah and admire her multi-faceted and exquisite taste—her vintage Chanel handbags, her dazzling Dior hat for decades past, her bronze wolf! Trot down the page and stumble into the closet of Ryan Corban, interior designer and co-owner of New York’s super-fash-uber-good-taste boutique Edon Manor. Admire a black army style lace-up appreciating its commitment to minimalism. Contemplate a scarf wrapped around a zebra; virtually tap a fingernail against a sterling silver ashtray. Visit the home of actress and designer Monet Mazur and covet her Jerome Rousseau shoes, her vintage Armani striped leather jacket.

The site will act like an enormous silver owl beating itS wings, urging you to rearrange your furniture and raid your grandmother’s jewelry box for some old-fashioned finds. As a voyeur, you feel as though the photos and each individual pixel of good taste is absorbing into your body via your fingertips. Bookmark The Coveteur to get inspired and stay chic, after all your dwelling space should capture the very essence of YOU!

New York has the Oak Room at The Plaza. Chicago has the Coq D’Or at The Drake Hotel. And Los Angeles has… The Spare Room at the Roosevelt. Oozing a sense of glamour and exclusivity while maintaining a dignity that so many other Hollywood venues lack, the Spare Room invites you to have a classic cocktail or a modern take on a classic cocktail, sit back against a delightfully art deco sofa and… stay awhile.

Thursday nights are now the time to be seen at The Spare Room. This season’s music is curated by none of other than actress and singer Samantha Shelton of the melodious voice, past associate of Zooey Deschanel’s jazz band If All the Stars Were Pretty Babies. And damn, does she have taste. Recently, they had the bluegrass meets flapper, 1920s-rockabilly band, Dustbowl Revival fill the space with some charming and danceable tunes and Stumpwaller was just as fabulous. Last week, (November 3rd, 2011), actress Malin Akerman hosted a benefit for Movember at the Spare Room. Movember is a moustache growing charity event held during November each year that raises funds and awareness for men’s health such as prostate cancer. The benefit featured a live performance by a minx favorite, WARPAINT! There was also a photo booth, a specialty “mo-cocktail”, and dance jams provided by Tim Nordwind of OK Go.

Marc Rose, one of the owners, believes in giving the bands a no-pressure atmosphere. The bands play when they want, take breaks when they want, and get to hang out and play a few rounds of checkers (or the board game of their choice) just like all the other patrons. In fact, they would probably be able to bowl a few rounds on the authentic wood lanes that run parallel to the enormous half-moon windows in the Spare Room. These lanes were procured in Texas and driven all the way to LA on a flatbed truck and installed via crane.

All in all, music belongs in a place like this, a place which salutes the yester-year of Hollywood in an unpretentious manner, which politely welcomes all. As Marc Rose alluded, it’s a living sonnet to “a time that once was, but is no more.”

Please do join us tonight! Music generally starts at 9pm or 10pm or slightly later depending on the line up, so it would be wise to call ahead: 323.769.7296 and rsvp at reservations@spareroomhollywood.com

Last week, Minx Society paid a visit to the highly anticipated Culver City mural created by famed artist collective (and our favorite emerging artists to keep an eye on) Cyrcle. Cohesively broadening the message of their solo show We Never Die, the versatile trio took their gallery-adept talents back to their roots: the streets.

Cyrcle. masterfully recreated a colossal 17th century medical drawing of a human face, in it’s stage of deterioration from muscle to bone. We Never Die illuminates the idea that the mortal human body, simply put, is massively insignificant when compared to the impact that artistic expression of the movers and shakers of our generation (i.e. Cyrcle) can have. Specifically in this piece, the mural exemplifies that depth trumps superficiality as, in the end; we are all the same underneath it all.

The entire mural was a week long process, done entirely freehand; that is, they didn’t use a stencil or projection of any kind. Organized by Branded Arts, the mural sits between Washington and National Blvd. in the center of Culver City, California. For more information about Cyrcle., check out http://www.cyrclebrand.com/

After the massive success of the Los Angeles MOCA’s “Art in the Streets” exhibit, we wouldn’t expect the popularity or demand for street art to die anytime soon. Call him genius or the ultimate copycat, Mr. Brainwash (Aka Thierry Guetta) is ready to keep the movement going.

Brainwash has set out on an ambitious exhibition – 20,000 square feet on La Brea Ave to be exact. Simply titled “Art Show 2011″, he hopes to focus on artists around the world capturing their positive interpretation on today’s popular culture , and if you think you got what it takes, he might even feature y-o-u.

Starting October 9th (this Sunday) artists can submit work via mail, as well as in person, to participate in the massive zone dedicated solely to upcoming/unknown artists. And just as quickly as popular culture comes and goes, all art associated with the exhibit is set to burn when the show ends. Well how ’bout that? Burn baby burn.

For more information on how you can submit your work check out www.artshow2011.com or for more info on Mr. Brainwash check out www.mrbrainwash.com.

CYRCLE., a three-man art collective, was born in October 2010 and will debut their first solo exhibition, “WE NEVER DIE!” this Thursday, August 25th, 2011 at Design Matters in Westwood. You may recall these guys showcasing their creative vision with their live painting exploits at your favorite weekly parties (i.e. Nightswim at The Tropicana and Minx Society’s very own weekly Society).

The three artists (Davey, Devin and Rabi) that collectively go by ‘CYRCLE.’ come from different backgrounds of the artistic spectrum- graffiti, fine art, and design. They utilize negative and oppressive imagery to create hope and inspiration. CYRCLE.’s aesthetic combines Classic Romanticism with alchemic symbolism, introducing it to the contemporary world through street campaigns, gallery work, and collaborations. These works reveal complex ideologies in their simplest forms. Living by the motto We Never Die, CYRCLE. strives to shed light on otherwise dark matters, playfully exposing the gray areas of life.

The exhibition“WE NEVER DIE!” at Design Matters will proudly spotlight over 40 new works juxtaposing life and death, and chaos and order. CYRCLE. will be in attendance along with a special guest DJ, booze flowing, and Cool Haus ice cream sandwiches. The soiree is open to the public on Thursday from 7:00pm - 11:00pm (don’t miss this one, minxes!) and the show continues through October 8th, 2011 @ Design Matters - 10590.5 West Pico Boulevard - Los Angeles, CA. RSVP NOW! Los Angeles, we hope you’re ready for this reemergence of art, because it’s back with a vengeance!
