You’re Invited: Domingo Zapata’s Opening at LAB ART

You are cordially invited to join fellow celebrities and taste-makers of LA for famed artist, Domingo Zapata’s art opening at LAB ART Gallery, this Thursday January 9th, from 7 – 10 PM.

For his latest series “A Nod to Matisse,” Zapata has created paintings inspired by French artist Henri Matisse. Zapata used his signature mixed media style to guide his exploration of women and their captivating poses through the work of Matisse. Colors of pink, gold, red, blue and yellow reflect the sensual motif while contemporary fabrics are integrated into the paintings to create an illusion that the women portrayed exist in present time.

Through the use of a Polaroid SLR 680 camera, the same that Warhol used in the 1970’s, Zapata shot eleven poses of a model, the same poses that Matisse used in his paintings. Zapata enhanced them with oil and acrylic pen to recreate a fantasy between the artist and his muse through a ‘pop art’ approach using mixed media.

Spanish-American artist Domingo Zapata is currently considered one of the biggest names to watch in the contemporary art landscape. His work has garnered international praise by leading publications and prestigious members of the art community. Zapata’s figurative and abstract expressionist paintings are often created with oil and acrylics, often incorporating mixed media, collage, and graffiti. Prestigious collectors of Zapata’s works include George Soros and the Neuberger Berman Group while recognizable faces including Johnny Depp, Lindsay Lohan, Damien Hirst, Sofia Vergara, Eva Longoria, Blaine Trump, Pat Riley and Carmelo Anthony have supported Zapata’s artistic ventures.

Guests will enjoy complimentary champagne by Freixenet and refreshments by Popwater, as well as light bites by Berri’s. Just make sure to rsvp@minxsociety.com to get on the list.
