Worth The Wait: Pinback’s ‘Information Retrieved’
San Diego-based indie/experimental band Pinback will release their fifth studio album, Information Retrieved, on October 16. As their fifth overall and first in seven years, the new record looks to continue their successful career as pioneers of a particularly resonant brand of indie rock.
Pinback’s style can best be described as free-form, percussion-heavy indie rock with a heavy reliance on thick, rich melodies by instrumentalists/vocalists/key members Rob Crow and Armistead Burwell Smith IV.
Their first new record since 2005′s Autumn of the Seraphs, Information Retrieved seems poised to expand even further upon the band’s eclectic, captivating style. They’ve been around for a while at this point (fourteen years now), and have really honed in on an identifiable ‘signature sound’, so to speak.
As a preview of Information Retrieved, here’s the song Proceed to Memory:
This song is mesmerizing, isn’t it? The interplay between the vocal tracks, guitar strumming and slow, deliberate pace lulls you into a blissful stupor. There’s no doubt that the rest of the songs on the album will elicit similar reactions. Right now, if you pre-order Information Retrieved on iTunes, you’ll receive an MP3 of this track, so what are you waiting for?
As far as local gigs are concerned, they’ll headline the Observatory in Santa Ana on December 18. Tickets don’t seem to be available for the show just yet but stay tuned to the Observatory’s website for further details.
And don’t forget to pick up the new album when it comes out – bands like Pinback don’t come around very often, so let’s enjoy them while they’re here.
