LA’s Hottest New Restaurants

On Wednesday, October 10th, 2012

There’s no shortage of incredible restaurants in Los Angeles, but it’s always refreshing when newbies hit the scene. The beginning of Fall has blessed us with 5 new openings that are definitely a hit. From savory steak in a party atmosphere, to pricey seafood in a secret courtyard, to a classic steakhouse turned hip rooftop atmosphere, to refined hick meets new American cuisine, and uniquely upscale tacos fit for hipsters, there’s something for every in-the-know Angeleno. Make a reservation today.

Smoke

Smoke is not your typical steakhouse, sure there are amazing steaks but, add in a hot spot times party atmosphere factor. A black and gray interior will welcome you with granite tabletops, waterfalls, and even a lounge area for a friendly and comfortable environment with a DJ booth and full bar. Yes, the DJ will really be playing during dinner service. Laurent Saussy executive chef, from Santa Monica’s successful Brick & Mortar, has created a menu with California inspiration, which will include some new spins on classic dishes. As it is a steakhouse you can obviously expect dry and wet steaks, but stay open to tasting items like the sashimi from the appetizer menu, the lobster mac and cheese, duck fat fries, and squid ink pasta dishes.  Come for ladies night out – or dudes, a brofest would work too!

9Olives Chaplin House

Take your date to this super cool, super romantic (pricey) new spot that neighbors the ever-so-magical Chateau Marmont. Inside, you will find a long bar filled with industry people and a formal dining room – keep walking…escape to the secret courtyard for a dinner under the stars. Try the Shrimp & Grits, Lobster Chowder, Pacific Halibut, Pacific Halibut, or the Lobster Ravioli for those in the mood for something a little bit heavier and even more delicious.

The Penthouse at Mastro’s

Imagine a rooftop of all rooftops, with waitresses dressed in fishnets at your beck and call with all the bowls of Tequila Punch you dream of. Yeah, this new awesome spot is atop Mastro’s Steakhouse in Beverly Hills. We couldn’t believe it either. Minxes love a little bit of edge and The Penthouse brings just that to this Beverly Hills staple. Enjoy some signature steak, Lobster mashed potatoes, and a couple new additions like Curry Hamachi Sashimi. Throw back some Tequila and see just where the night takes you. Sugar Daddy hunting anyone?

MessHall

If you haven’t heard everyone talking about this yet, you will. MessHall is all the rage right now! For this new hot spot, the menu calls to mind “trendy-refined-hick-inspired-plates.” Yeah, it’s that awesome. Most of the buzz behind the restaurant, set in a space reminicesent of an army mess hall with communal tables, an oyster bar, and an outdoor fire pit, comes from the successful track record of the owner, Bill Chait (Rivera, Playa, Sotto, Short Order, and Picca). Try the ahi tuna which comes with bacon mash and a whiskey-peppercorn sauce, day-boat scallops that are served with corn succotash, and Texas toast with smoked brisket and fries. The first visit just won’t be enough, this is a place you will want to keep coming back to – for the food, the vibes, the ambiance, and the overall consistency.

Diablo

Head to the Eastside for the best upscale tacos and beers in the city at  minimalist modern swanky new spot Diablo.  The food is the bomb, and what’s even more, is that there is something for meat-eaters, vegetarians, and vegans alike! Each taco is wrapped with a handmade tortilla, with mouth-watering fillings like braised pork belly, butter-roasted Maine lobster, and maple-fried chicken. Everyone is also raving about the grilled cheese taco and potato skins with Diablo ketchup. Come with a group or a date, either way it’s a great vibe for all parties.
