Minxy Guide to This Weekend’s Art Openings
If you’re an artsy minx, you can’t miss out on this Saturday night. Lucky for you, an unusually large amount of galleries are getting ready for openings. So put on your best art-seeing heels and grab your camera for some of Saturday’s best opening shows.
1. XVALA – Funny games
XVALA doesn’t fear shaking things up. So it’s no surprise that his next show focuses on one of pop’s biggest current stars – Beebs himself. XVALA took trash from Justin Bieber and is now using those items to make artwork. Check out works like a chocolate scupture of a banana in a hot dog bun. Need we say more? 2. I Art You 78/83 – Celebrity Bath Salts
Following the famous faces themes, the duo I Art You 78/83 will take your favorite names and make them into zombies. Yes, zombies. Following the craze over zombie-like events and bath salts, the artistic pair puts a humorous spins on recognizable icons. Not bad for getting into the Halloween spirit. 3. Dirty Lights: A Photography Exhibition
If you’re a photography fiend and music lover, this show beautifully clashes both world. Hosted in part by Filter magazine, the show will feature works from well-known photographers but also non-art peeps like a director and comedian. Featuring a performance from Father John Misty, the night will surely be star-studded. The show starts at 8 p.m. but feel free to arrive fashionably late. Get more information here.
4. Lola – Haro
Corey Helford Gallery, one of the main galleries in the Culver City Art District, will celebrate the opening of its new locale CHG Circa. At 7 p.m. you can check out the new space and the whimsical work of Lola, which looks like something out of a strange but intriguing dream.
