The xx Continue to Captivate

On Wednesday, July 25th, 2012

If you’ve been sitting at home listening to the xx on repeat and missing the band terribly, don’t worry: the trio has been missing you, too.

Despite their last studio album being released back in 2009, the UK band’s fanbase stayed strong over the years and their recent LA shows sold out quickly. Just earlier this week, the band also released its new single “Angels” and gave avid fans quite a big surprise. If you weren’t one the the few lucky fans that got to attend their private live show as a part of L.A. rock station 98.7 F.M.’s Penthouse series at the Hollywood Tower on Monday, you can still catch the band at one of two upcoming shows at either the classic Hollywood Palladium or the creepy cool Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

The xx made the big announcement on their site and sent fans a lot of love, writing before the track: “We’ve been playing this song live recently, so it feels good to share with the version we’ve been working on for so long. We hope you like it.”

The nearly three-minute track sounds deliciously ephemeral from the very beginning. With her undeniably smooth voice, it’s hard to resist Romy and the snippets of guitar and drum notes perfectly sprinkled throughout only add to the romantic quality of the track.

“Angels” encapsulates the band’s characteristic sound, one that could have hundreds of concert-goers happily swaying back and forth, no matter the venue. If you can’t attend the shows, you can preorder the album on iTunes and get a free copy of the track, too. It’s a good summer for fans of the xx, old and new. Even after the track is over, the line ‘being as in love with you as I am’ keeps echoing your head – WE’RE in love! Give the single a listen below:
