Coachella Announces Cruise Concert
The lineup for the 2013 version of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival won’t be released for a few months. That didn’t stop Goldenvoice from taking the opportunity today to announce the S.S. Coachella, a concert cruise that will set sail from the Bahamas and Jamaica in December.
The lineup: Pulp, Hot Chip, Yeasayer, Girl Talk, James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem (DJ set), Sleigh Bells, Simian Mobile Disco, Z-Trip, !!!, Warpaint, DJ Harvey, El-P, Killer Mike, Black Lips, the Gaslamp Killer, Grimes, Cloud Nothings, Jason Bentley, the Rapture (DJ set), Father John Misty, Tokimonsta and Alf Alpha will all perform on the boat.
But this isn’t your ordinary cruise – Goldenvoice mastermind Paul Tollett told the New York Times that the ship is something special, and has a fancy name:
The Celebrity Silhouette, a 1,000-foot, 122,000-ton ship with room for 2,800 fans, cabana-style alcoves and a small theater that Mr. Tollett called a “mini-Royal Albert Hall”.
Both excursions will depart from Fort Lauderdale, Florida on December 16 (the three-day tour heading to the Bahamas) and December 19 (four-day tour going to Jamaica). Prices for cabins on the boat start at $500 and go all the way up to $6,000, if you’d rather hang out in a ‘sky suite with a veranda’.
Music cruises seem to be all the rage recently, and it’s hardly surprising that Coachella – a festival that is well on its way to becoming THE major music festival in the United States – would want to get in on the fun.
Of course, cruises aren’t for everyone, and many Coachella fans are waiting and saving up to hear the lineup for next year’s outdoor festival. Regardless, this cruise will probably be another successful venture for Goldenvoice.
Stay in tune with the S.S. Coachella on its official Facebook page or its website. Cabins go on sale this Saturday at 10 AM, Pacific Time.
