Cinco De Drinko in LA

On Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

Cinco de Mayo is that special time of year where drinking tequila in epic proportions is not only encouraged, but also celebrated. And while many believe that this holiday marks Mexico’s Independence Day, it’s actually a celebration of Mexico’s victory against the French army at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. But hey, why not drink to both? So give it your Minx best and hit the finest fiestas this city has to offer. We’ve got our list of party spots for the May 5th holiday below.

Malo/Mas Malo

For those wanting to cavort on the east side, Silver Lake’s Malo is hip, hip, hip. Famous for their melt-in-your-mouth “chewy” chips and to-die-for ground beef pickle tacos (weird combo, right?) and stiff drinks; join sexy musician/artist/hipster types as they celebrate in style.  And, if you’re in the mood for something a bit more grandiose, visit their Downtown location dubbed appropriately, “Mas Malo.”

Marix

Jennifer Aniston loves this West Hollywood bar and restaurant, and for good reason! The food is incredible and the drinks are enormous and delicious.

Their happy hour will offer $4 Grande Margaritas and $3 Cervezas, and food specials like their “Macho Nachos,” Jalapeno Poppers, and Chile con Queso.

The space is always packed because it is just that good. You can expect to hear some pretty intense party music to go along with your food and drink, so come prepared and you’ll leave saying “Ole!”

The Conga Room

The Conga Room has long been thought of as one of the largest venues for Latin music in LA. Shakira, Carlos Santa, and Tito Puente and the Buena Vista Social Club have graced the stages of this nightclub and bar, so you better believe that there will be an epic party come Cinco de Mayo!

On May 5th you can expect to dance to electro Latin rhythms from Maria Daniela y su Sonido Lasser, a three-piece party band from Mexico called Cosmopolitan, and Las Cafeteras which plans to bring guitar, marimba, cajon, and Southern Veracruz dancing to the venue. The party starts at 8 p.m. and you can buy your tickets here.

El Carmen

If tequila is what you want, then look no further. El Carmen is a great place to start or end your evening, and specializes in drinks that will have you licking multiple rounds of salt off your hand. There are more than 420 varieties of tequila to choose from, and if you’re feeling extra naughty try the sampler platter where you’ll get a few sips of several different types.

The space is intimate, with bulls’ heads and authentic Mexican wrestling masks hanging from the walls. The black velvet paintings and pulp-style art creates a mood that draws in a super hip crowd. So, if you’re looking for a small room filled with good-looking Minxes this should definitely be one of your stops!

Spanish Kitchen

Many a celeb has wandered into the Spanish Kitchen, and the place was made famous after the ladies of The Hills shot an episode here, but it’s all for good reason.

Location, location, location! Right in the heart of West Hollywood, this bar and restaurant offers intimate and fireplace-adjacent patio seating, along with the crescent shaped booths that line the tiled floor inside. Dramatic chandeliers hang over the chic people that frequent this place, and perhaps they keep coming back for more because the lighting makes everyone look so damn good!

This Minx has been to Spanish Kitchen on Cinco de Mayo and let me warn you: it will be jam packed with gorgeous drunk people. So, come dressed to impress and definitely try one of the signature margaritas, like their Blackberry Ginger Margarita. Yummy!
