Fraulein means “unmarried woman” in German, but, according to an interview with Nylon, Ellen von Unwerth has a very different definition for it.“I thought, fraulein is such a perfect name for the kind of woman I photograph; frivolous, fun, bubbly, and has lots of personality,” she said. Reportedly, Von Unwerth began the project by picking through 1,500 boxes of pictures, searching for the perfect images that reflected eroticsized femininity, intrigue, and romance.
